Special Devices

For those with specific needs, the Library has several tools to help you during your visit. All of this equipment is located at the Access Services Circulation Desk. In order to borrow these devices, we ask that you leave your Borrower's Card or picture ID at the desk until the device is returned. Patrons who borrow these items are responsible for the full cost of the item if it becomes damaged or lost. There is no time limit on borrowing these items; however, these special devices are not available for take-home check-out  and should not leave the Library.
Browsing Baskets
The Library has added browsing baskets for those who need help toting their materials during their visit. The baskets have wide handles for easy handling and are rounded on the side to rest easily next to your leg. Baskets are located next to the computer catalogs and the Reference section.
Computer Screen Magnifiers
The Library has computer screen magnifiers for those with low-vision or special reading needs using public computers. These magnifiers fit right over the computer screens available at all public computers. The lens can be adjusted to magnify character size to as much as double the normal view size. The magnifiers also have an anti-reflective coating for clear viewing.
Digital Reading Pens
Electronic reading pens are available for those with low-vision or special reading needs. These pens can electronically scan a word in any magazine, book, etc., and display it prominently on a screen on the pen. It also states the word out loud and can give a definition if needed.
Handheld Magnifiers
The handheld magnifiers increase the size of text and pictures up to 4 times, and have an LED light to brighten up the materials when needed. The magnifiers have large round handles for easy holding with a large lens in order to view significant areas of text, not just a few words at a time.
