Calling all Warriors fans! Join us Wednesday, March 13th at 2:00 PM in the Moeschle Room for a pawsome program all about the cats and their clans! We'll be doing a reading from the series and will also create our own feline Warrior character and make a paper bag puppet of it!  Don’t miss out on all the wonderful Warrior fun!

If you're too young for Summer Reading Club, you're perfect for Spring Reading Club! This wonderful program will help get your child (under the age of 5) ready for reading. There are 8 activities to complete with your child in the month of March. You can also earn fun prizes just for participating each week!

Annual Library Book Sale: March 8-10

Once again we will be holding our annual Library book sale! This year's sale is scheduled for March 8th and 9th in the Moeschle Room. If we still have lots of books left to sell, we will extend the sale through Sunday, March 10th.

Donated and used books no longer in circulation will be available for purchase. We also have a large collection of VHS tapes that will be up for grabs! From college text books, cookbooks and storybooks to biographies, mysteries and romance novels, we've got something for people of all ages.

There are lots of great deals and it's a wonderful way to show your support for the library! With prices ranging from .25 - $1.00, everyone can afford to shop!

WANTED: Computer Instructors & Volunteers!

If you love computers and helping people, we need your help! We have a variety of computer classes to offer and need help teaching them!

Class schedules are flexible- we can accommodate you whether you're available in the morning, afternoon or evening. We even have complete lesson plans if you prefer to just follow them or you can make your own. No teaching experience necessary- you just need to know whichever computer program you're teaching. If there's a program you really enjoy and we don't offer a class for it- you can start one- the possibilities are endless!

Also, we would also love to be able to offer some computer classes in Spanish so if you speak Spanish fluently- come see us!

Teaching computer classes gives you valuable experience to add to your resume. From college students to retirees, this is a great opportunity to give back to the community. If you're interested in volunteering in the computer lab, please call Mr. Kim Cox at 903-237-1353.

Genealogy Lock-In Slated For February 15

Library to Host Lock-in for Genealogists

Friday, February 15th, gather your research materials and head for the Longview Public Library's Genealogy/Local History Department for a night of undisturbed research from 6:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight. The doors will be locked at 6:00pm, so be sure to be in the library before then or you'll get locked out of all the fun!

The library computers will be available for free access to the Footnote database of millions of military records, Dawes Rolls and other important records. Use Ancestry and the Heritage Quest database of Census, Revolutionary War Pension Records, the Freedman's Bank, PERSI and thousands of family history books. Search Newsbank Historical Newspapers database that has complete newspapers dating back to the 1600's! The list goes on and on and on.

You may also bring your own laptop and use the library's WiFi. Regretfully, Footnote and Ancestry are only accessible on the library computers.

Snacks & drinks will be allowed.

Our Star Party Is Slated For February 19th!

"When you wish upon a star..."

We're having a star party & you're invited! Come on out to the Library on Tuesday, February 19th as we turn our eyes to the sky. It's the night of a New Moon and, with the help of LeTourneau University students and Physics Professor Dr. Steve Ball, we'll be able to view through several different telescopes! We should also be able to see the Moon, Jupiter and its moons, as well as the Pleiades, a star cluster- weather permitting, of course!

We'll be outside, starting about 7:00 PM, so please dress appropriately for the temperatures outside. This event will be fun for the whole family and hopefully the weather will cooperate!  :)

Feb. 20th Is African American Read-In

Our Broughton Branch Library is hosting an event to celebrate the National African American Read-In. The event will take place on Wednesday, February 20th at 7:00 PM. It will be an evening of readings authored by African Americans.

Come gather with other members of our community as we continue to celebrate Black History Month. Everyone is welcome!

Our Broughton Branch Library is located inside the Broughton Recreation Center, located at 801 S. Martin Luther King Blvd. in Longview. The Branch is normally open Monday through Thursday from 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM but will stay open later for this event.

City offices and the Longview Public Library will be closed on Monday, January 21, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. Sanitation will pick up trash on Monday. Longview Transit will operate as normal.

Lower Fines During LPL Amnesty Week: Jan. 14 - 18

Got fines? Still holding on to that movie you checked out months ago? Why not make things right in 2013?

During the week of January 14 - 18, bring in your overdue movies and books and we'll save you some money- no questions asked! If your account is not in collections, we'll waive all of the fines and fees associated with the item(s). If you account is in collections, we can still waive the replacement cost of the item, which is usually a good portion of the debt owed. 

Reminder: Not returning Library materials is theft of property and affects everyone!

Items that have been severely damaged are not eligible for waived fines as we still need to replace them.

Jan. 24th Is Terrific Thursday: Texas Bank & Trust (For Kids)

Super Saturday is now Terrific Thursday!

This month's "Terrific Thursday" event features our friends from Texas Bank & Trust! Come join us for their fun program that teaches children ages 5-12 all about money and how to manage it. This isn't your typical boring lecture- it's an interactive activity! Texas Bank & Trust has lots of methods to make learning about money fun and easy like their MyClubhouse tools, games and stories starring cute characters like Digitz the Dog, Bill Dollar and Peggy Banks! 

Help your kids learn to save money in a fun, interactive way from the professionals at Texas Bank & Trust! We'll meet in the Moeschle Room at 7:00 PM.
