Disney DVDs To Require Deposit

ShareThis
Library

Due to the overwhelming loss of "never returned" Disney DVDs, we will start requiring $20.00 deposits, for select Disney movies, at the time of checkout. This new policy will go into effect April 15. Also requiring deposits is the newly added British television series "Downton Abbey."

Disney movies are expensive to purchase and because of Disney's "vault" marketing tactic, they are not always available for us to purchase replacement copies. You may pay your deposit by either cash or check. As we are no longer permitted to keep deposits onsite, reimbursement checks will be issued and sent via U.S. mail within 7 - 14 days once the items are returned.

*You can have a "standing deposit," meaning that once you pay your $20.00 deposit, so you can opt to leave it on file with us. This makes it easier for you so that you don't  have to keep paying $20.00, wait for your reimbursement check, and then pay another $20.00 deposit for your next Disney (or Downton Abbey) DVD. Whenever you decide you no longer want your $20.00 to stay in the system, let us know and we will have the city issue and mail your refund check.

We hope this new policy will encourage patrons to return their Library materials so we do not have to keep spending money on replacing items and we can instead use that money to enhance our wonderful Library collection. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

I Read To Animals Returns May 7th

ShareThis
Library

I Read To Animals is a unique program that we introduced last year. Made possible by a grant received from the Texas State Library, the program is very effective at helping children to practice reading by alleviating the fear and embarrassment that is often associated with reading aloud in a classroom setting. Animals are friendly, patient listeners and can be great confidence builders.

We will be offering another session of I Read To Animals on Tuesday, May 7th at 3:30 PM. We will use this time to allow kids to come into the library and practice their reading skills by reading aloud to real animals, provided by the Texas Star Rescue group. Grab your favorite animal-related book and come on into the library during this special time to sharpen those reading skills while entertaining a new furry friend!

For more information, stop by the library or call Miss Monica at 903-237-1027.

If there's a program you really enjoy and we don't offer a class for it- you can start one- the possibilities are endless!

Also, we would love to be able to offer some computer classes in Spanish so if you speak Spanish fluently- come see us!

Teaching computer classes gives you valuable experience to add to your resume. From college students to retirees, this is a great opportunity to give back to the community. If you're interested in volunteering in the computer lab, please call Mr. Kim Cox at 903-237-1353.
