Author David Brown will join be here On Wednesday, May 29th, to talk about his book Gone at 3:17. The Untold Story of the Worst School Disaster in American History. Brown's book is all about the 1937 explosion at a school in New London, Texas. A former reporter for the Longview News Journal, Brown has extensively researched the material for this book on both professional and personal levels.

The presentation will begin at 10:30 AM and a book signing will follow. Brown will have a limited number of books on hand to sell but it is recommended that interested patrons purchase copies ahead of time and, if desired, bring them to the presentation to have them signed. For people interested in reading the book ahead of time but don't wish to purchase, we do have two copies available for checkout at the Library!

This class is designed as an introduction to word processing using Word 2007.  Students will learn the basic tools of Word 2007 and practice selecting text, modifying text, cutting and pasting, opening a file, and saving a document.  Spelling and grammar checks, paragraph options, and alignments buttons will be discussed.  Hands-on exercises will include editing a pre-existing document and creating a party invitation.  This class assumes the student has some experience with Windows and using a mouse.  Beginner class.
 
Classes are FREE but we do ask that you call (903) 237-1354 or stop in and register in advance. Also, if you sign-up for a class and cannot make it, please be considerate and call and cancel with us so that we may give your spot to someone else. We hate turning away people, as many of our classes do fill up!

This class offers students advanced practice in inserting columns, borders and footnotes, and adjusting margins.  Hands-on exercise includes creating a newsletter type article with pictures, columns, table, and page border.  This class assumes the student has some experience with Windows and using a mouse, and has taken the Word I & II classes.  Intermediate class.  
 
Classes are FREE but we do ask that you call (903) 237-1354 or stop in and register in advance. Also, if you sign-up for a class and cannot make it, please be considerate and call and cancel with us so that we may give your spot to someone else. This class will offer students an opportunity to become familiar with spreadsheets.  They will learn what a spreadsheet is and some common uses for them.  Using hands-on exercises the students will create a simple budget spreadsheet and an electronic checkbook.  This class assumes the student has some experience with Windows and using a mouse.  Beginner class.

BUZZ! BUZZ! BUZZ! It's summer and that means flowers and bees! Most people are scared of bees but they are good for many reasons and not all of them sting!
Our friend Bobo the Bee Man will be here on Friday, July 5th to tell us all about them! He has a fun show-n-tell program all about bees and he'll bring along a real bee hive that you can see as well as many different products made by bees, such as beeswax and honey! So come on into the Moeschle Room and see what the buzz is all about! We'll start at 10:30 AM.

An exciting multicultural program, parents enjoy it as much as the kids! If Ms. Maria keeps your kids begging for more, she has CDs available!

He's wild, he's crazy, he's BAD KITTY...and he's coming to the Longview Public Library!!!! Join us on Wednesday, July 17th for a very exciting meet and greet with author Nick Bruel! Creator of the Bad Kitty series of books about a little black kitty who is not nice but naughty!  Nick will tell us how Bad Kitty was created and how kids can grow with her as she stars in both easy readers and chapter books! Nick also illustrates the Bad Kitty books!
As a special treat, 10 lucky Summer Reading Club participants who are current on their reading will get to have lunch with Nick!
