We've had many requests for social media classes and when we tried to hold them individually, patrons requested both in one class, so here it is!
First we'll teach an introduction to the social media website Facebook (facebook.com). Students will receive an overview of Facebook and learn how to set up an account and create a profile of their own. In order to verify your Facebook account you must have a valid email address! If you need to get an email address, please come into the Library and ask a reference librarian or the computer lab volunteers to help you get set up with one ahead of time.
During the class we will cover security settings, timeline / wall, photos, friends, newsfeeds, messenger and apps. We will also answer questions. If you want to upload photos (for your profile and cover pictures, to share with friends, etc.) you may do so- all photos must be on a flash drive! We do not have the time to scan and upload photos.
Next, we'll head on over to a fun little place on the web called Pinterest!
Pinterest is a virtual bulletin board-style photo-sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, and hobbies. Users can browse other boards for images, "re-pin" images to their own boards, or "like" photos. It's a wonderful way to collect and share recipes, keep track of books you've read, coordinate weddings and parties and gather inspiration and ideas for whatever interests you!
The class will provide an overview of Pinterest, how to create a Pinterest account, creating, editing and deleting boards, finding friends and other people or boards to follow and more. In order to use Pinterest, you must be able to provide and verify an active email address!
Classes are FREE but we do ask that you call (903) 237-1354 or stop in and register in advance. Also, if you sign-up for a class and cannot make it, please be considerate and call and cancel with us so that we may give your spot to someone else. We hate turning away people, as many of our classes do fill up!
