eBooks & eAudiobooks

eBooks & eAudiobooks

eBooks, or electronic books, are books that you can either read on your computer or download to your portable device. The Longview Public Library is pleased to be able to offer our patrons the ability to checkout and download free eBooks through EBSCOhost and OverDrive! Please read the information below to help you get started. If you require further assistance, call or stop in and we’ll be glad to help!

*Please note that eBook and eAudiobook downloads are not allowed on library public computers. EBSCOhost does not offer Kindle-compatible titles- only OverDrive does.

OverDrive: eBooks & eAudiobooks

OverDrive offers both eBooks and eAudiobooks. popular fiction and non-fiction titles, including graphic novels, for readers of all ages. Most titles are Kindle-compatible as well.

  • You will need an active Longview Public Library borrower’s card to checkout free eBooks and eAudiobooks through OverDrive. *You cannot use OverDrive if your borrower’s card is expired or if you have any outstanding fines. You will also need the pin/password associated with your Library card. To reset your password, please come in to the Access Services desk.

  • You may choose a loan period of 7 or 14 days. Titles cannot be renewed, but can be checked out again if they are available when your checkout expires.
  • A maximum of 5 OverDrive items (eBooks and eAudiobooks combined) may be checked out at any time.

Getting Started With OverDrive

  • Click on the OverDrive logo to access the available eAudiobooks in the Northeast Texas Digital Consortium of which we are a part of.
  • On the left side of the page is the “Quick Search” box. Use this to search for books by title, author, keywords, etc.

*Once you get your results page(s), you can search within the results by using the box at the top of that page or begin a new search by using the box on the left side.

*If you wish to search only eBooks click the link above the “Quick Search” box to be directed to those titles and follow the instructions.

  • Under each title, you can see what forms that title is available in (Adobe PDF eBook, Kindle Book, Adobe EPUB Book, etc). Click on the title for more information or to check out that book.
  • Once you’ve made a choice, click on “Add to My Cart.”

*If the book is checked out, you can select “Add to your Wish List.”

  • When you have added all of the desired materials to your cart, click on “Proceed To Checkout.”
  •  From the drop down menu, select Longview Public Library.
  • You will then need to sign in using your Longview Public Library borrower’s card number and then the pin/password that you have associated with your card. *If you do not remember your password or need it reset, you will need to come into the library and have this done. We are unable to see your password and cannot verify that you are who you say you are over the phone.
  • Once you have logged in, you can select your lending period from the drop down box at the top (7 or 14 days). Then click “Confirm Check Out.”
