Looking for a good book? Come to the Scholastic Book Fair: December 9th - 13th at the Longview Public Library!
Parents, come in and get clued in on great gifts for Christmas, Hannukah, birthdays and more! Some new books are great tools to keep the kids quiet on your next roadtrip or family vacation! we’ll have a little of everything from cool nonfiction reads to your favorite chapter and picture books.
TheScholastic book fair will be set up in the Moeschle Room during library hours. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.
The Children's Department staff will be doing a special reading of Clement Clarke Moore's famous poem "T'was The Night Before Christmas." Gather with us in the department on Monday, December 23rd for this festive reading at 5:00 PM.
The Northeast Texas Humane Society (HSNTX) is coming to the Longview Public Library and they're even bringing their adoption trailer! Come on out to the Library on Saturday, November 16th, and adopt a pet! By adopting a dog or cat, you'll be saving a life and getting a fun, furry family member in return.
The adoption event will begin with a program in the Moeschle Room where we will learn about our local HSNTX shelter and what they do. Then we will go outside and meet some of the adoptable animals out on the plaza. The program will begin at 2:00 PM so come on out and learn how you can save an animal's life and consider taking home a new 4-legged friend!
Adoption fees are as follows:
$100 for unaltered dogs/puppies (includes a certificate for a free spay/neuter)
$75 for unaltered cats/kittens (includes a certificate for a free spay/neuter)
$50 for all altered animals
The entries from the 2013 Art of Character high school art contest are currently on display at the Longview Public Library now through December 10th.
A combined effort of the Adopt A School Partnership of Longview and area public high schools, the goal of the annual Art of Character contest is to promote character education.
The Art of Character awards ceremony will be held Wednesday, November 20th, at 5:30 PM in the Moeschle Room. Come out and support our area students while enjoying their diverse artistic talents!

Our friends from the Texas Shakespeare Festival have generously agreed to come to the Longview Public Library to do a dramatic reading of How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Join us in the Moeschle Room on Thursday, December 5th at 5:00 PM
A delightful tale for all ages, this Dr. Seuss book will come alive when read by these talented actors and actresses.Free, festive, family fun like this is very hard to beat so don't miss out!
Come catch the Christmas spirit as we're treated to a free concert! The Hallsville High School Choir has graciously agreed to come sing some holiday tunes for our Library patrons. They'll be here on Friday, December 13th, at 5:00 PM. Stop by and support these talented kids!
Don't miss the annual Longview Christmas Parade on Thursday, December 5th! This year's theme is "Storybook Christmas" and the Longview public Library is participating this year with a float entry! The parade, sponsored by AMBUCS, will begin its route through downtown Longview at 6:30 PM.

Library to Host Lock-in for Genealogists
Friday, February 10th, gather your research materials and head for the Longview Public Library's Genealogy/Local History Department for a night of undisturbed research from 6:00 PM until 12:00 midnight. The doors will be locked at 6:00 PM, so be sure to be in the library before then or you'll get locked out of all the fun!
The library computers will be available for free access to the Footnote database of millions of military records, Dawes Rolls and other important records. Use Ancestry and the Heritage Quest database of Census, Revolutionary War Pension Records, the Freedman's Bank, PERSI and thousands of family history books. Search Newsbank Historical Newspapers database that has complete newspapers dating back to the 1600's! The list goes on and on and on.
You may also bring your own laptop and use the library's WiFi. Regretfully, Footnote and Ancestry are only accessible on the library computers.
Snacks & drinks will be allowed.
