Are you a descendant of a family that was here in Texas during the Republic of Texas era, 1836 - 1846?
The Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT), John Tilley Edwards Chapter, is hosting a free workshop at Longview Public Library on Saturday, January 18th. The workshop is open to anyone who is interested in researching their Texas ancestry. DRT members will be on hand to offer assistance in finding ancestors who were residents during the Republic of Texas era, and even before.
Also included will be information on the goals of DRT, research tips, tools, places, and other topics of interest to avid or casual Texas genealogy buffs. Anyone with a brave pioneer ancestor who would qualify their descendant for membership in DRT should be especially interested. Membership qualifications will be discussed.
The DRT meeting and workshop will be held in the library's Moeschle Room and will begin at 1:30pm.
The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) will begin regular meetings on the first Thursday of each month. The next meeting will be on Thursday, January 9th, from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. The group will meet in Miss Jennifer's office.
TAB is a group of teens that want to voice their opinions and have a say in the activities and events that the Library offers. They also get to help choose which YA books we add to the collection! If you want your voice to be heard, contact Miss Mackenzie at 903-237-1345 for more information on TAB and how to get involved!
This class is designed as an introduction to the social media website Facebook (facebook.com). Students will receive an overview of Facebook and learn how to set up an account and create a profile of their own. In order to verify your Facebook account you must have a valid email address! If you need to get an email address, please come into the Library and ask a reference librarian or the computer lab volunteers to help you get set up with one ahead of time.
During the class we will cover security settings, timeline / wall, photos, friends, newsfeeds, messenger and apps. We will also answer questions. If you want to upload photos (for your profile and cover pictures, to share with friends, etc.) you may do so- all photos must be on a flash drive! We do not have the time to scan and upload photos.
This class assumes the student has some experience with using a computer and the internet. If you are not comfortable using a computer and the internet, we suggest taking our Computer & Internet Basic course first.
Classes are FREE but we do ask that you call (903) 237-1354 or stop in and register in advance. Also, if you sign-up for a class and cannot make it, please be considerate and call and cancel with us so that we may give your spot to someone else. We hate turning away people, as many of our classes do fill up! Thanks!
