Word II Class

This class offers students a review of the skills learned in Word I and introduces students to lists, tables, and drawing.  Hands-on exercises include review of cutting, pasting, and formatting text, creating a table and list, and drawing.  This class assumes the student has some experience with Windows and using a mouse, and has taken the Word I class.  Beginner class.
 
Classes are FREE but we do ask that you call (903) 237-1354 or stop in and register in advance. Also, if you sign-up for a class and cannot make it, please be considerate and call and cancel with us so that we may give your spot to someone else. We hate turning away people, as many of our classes do fill up!

Microsoft Word Class

This class is designed as an introduction to word processing using Word 2007.  Students will learn the basic tools of Word 2007 and practice selecting text, modifying text, cutting and pasting, opening a file, and saving a document.  Spelling and grammar checks, paragraph options, and alignments buttons will be discussed.  Hands-on exercises will include editing a pre-existing document and creating a party invitation.  This class assumes the student has some experience with Windows and using a mouse.  Beginner class.

Get a new eReader, tablet, or smartphone for the Holidays? Did you know that you can check out Library books for free? The Library offers OverDrive where patrons can check out and download free eBooks and eAudiobooks onto various devices.

We can help you get started with your fun new gadget or possibly fix problems you've been encountering! Come into the Library on Tuesday, January 15th at 7:00 PM. Simply bring your device and our friendly, knowledgeable staff will sit down with you and help you get up and running with OverDrive!  

We'll be in the Moeschle Room from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM so come on in and ask away! *You will need your valid Library card number and the password associated with the card! If you don't remember or have the password, come see our Access Services desk so they can reset that for you.

Titanic Speaker/Author

Julie Williams' great uncle was on the legendary Titanic when the great ship went down. As a result, Julie grew up hearing all of his stories firsthand and naturally grew up with a fascination surrounding the ship and it's fate. She went on to write a book, A Rare Titanic Family, and it was published last year!

The Birmingham, Ala; author will be here, in the Longview Public Library's Moeschle Room, on Friday, January 18th, to share her great uncle's stories with us. She will also discuss her book and autograph copies for interested patrons! 

The presentation will begin at 10:30 AM so please make arrangements to join us for this special appearance!

Lower Fines During LPL Amnesty Week: Jan. 14 - 18

Got fines? Still holding on to that movie you checked out months ago? Why not make things right in 2013?

During the week of January 14 - 18, bring in your overdue movies and books and we'll save you some money- no questions asked! If your account is not in collections, we'll waive all of the fines and fees associated with the item(s). If you account is in collections, we can still waive the replacement cost of the item, which is usually a good portion of the debt owed. 

Reminder: Not returning Library materials is theft of property and affects everyone!

Items that have been severely damaged are not eligible for waived fines as we still need to replace them.

Super Saturday is now Terrific Thursday!

This month's "Terrific Thursday" event features our friends from Texas Bank & Trust! Come join us for their fun program that teaches children ages 5-12 all about money and how to manage it. This isn't your typical boring lecture- it's an interactive activity! Texas Bank & Trust has lots of methods to make learning about money fun and easy like their MyClubhouse tools, games and stories starring cute characters like Digitz the Dog, Bill Dollar and Peggy Banks! 

Help your kids learn to save money in a fun, interactive way from the professionals at Texas Bank & Trust! We'll meet in the Moeschle Room at 7:00 PM.

The Book Club has chosen to read Mitch Albom's The Time Keeper for January. They will meet on Thursday, January 24th to discuss it. 

 

Come join them in the Moeschle Room at 6:30 PM for a lively discussion as they share their love of books! 

 

Can't make it this month? Pick up a copy of Louise Penny's novel Still Life and get ready for February's Book Club meeting!
